 Jio will open the registration counters for its free JioPhone. Although the phone is not exactly free, as consumers will have to pay Rs 1500 refundable security fee as well as money for the monthly plan, it is effectively free. However, tomorrow as they register, people will not be asked to pay anything. The registration process is simple: Just tell Jio that you want to get a JioPhone and supply your credentials (name, contact details etc). Once the phone is available in September, Jio will ask you to come and collect the JioPhone. It is at that moment, you will have to pay the refundable fee as well as subscribe to a monthly Jio plan. 

Reliance Jio launched the phone at its 40th AGM held on July 21. The company had scheduled beta testing from August 15 and the pre-bookings from August 24. The phone is expected to be reach consumers in the first half of September. The phone will be offered to consumers on the first-come, first serve basis. In other words, the those who register for the JioPhone early will have a chance to get it early.

JioPhone specs: The JioPhone is a 4G feature phone with smart features like 2MP rear, VGA front camera, voice calling, 4G VoLTE support, Jio Assistant, GPS and more. The phone will effectively cost zero. However, the company will ask you to submit a sum of Rs 1500 as security deposit which will be refundable only after 36 months. The feature will come with 4GB internal memory that's expandable up to 125GB using microSD card.

Beta testers for Jio Phone: Like the Jio SIM, Jio has given the JioPhone to select employees and partners for testing purpose. The beta testing began from August 15. However, details of how the beta testing has gone have not been made public. But given the fact that Jio is opening the registration tomorrow hints that Jio met the expectations from the JioPhone while beta-testing it.

Register interest in JioPhone

Jio is offering registration for its phone on both online portal as well in local stores. Those who wish to pre-book the phone online, they can go to Jio.com and register interest for the JioPhone. After this you will get an SMS or an email as soon as the pre-booking starts. People can also keep checking the MyJio app for updates. For offline booking, talk to your nearby Jio retailer. User can also register interest offline via SMS. Just type JP Store Code to 7021170211 and you will be posted of the pre-booking updates.

Actual pre-booking online as well as offline

Offline buyers need to walk up to the nearby Jio store or any retail shop that is taking JioPhone registrations. This starts from tomorrow, which is August 24. Do not forget to carry your Aadhaar card. Online registrations will be done on Jio.com. This page too will accept pre-bookings from tomorrow. But do remember that due to expected rush and load, you may find the pre-booking page on the Jio site slow or momentarily inaccessible tomorrow.

JioPhone delivery

There is nothing official from Jio yet as far as the delivery of the JioPhone is concerned. The company, at the launch had said that the delivery would happen during the first week of September. The company had said that the phone would be available on first-come-first-serve basis. In fact, one of the retailers had also confirmed to India Today Tech that those who have registered interest for JioPhone on August 24 would be the first batch of customers to receive the JioPhone. This also means that the phone would be initially released in limited number and later people may have to queue at the Jio stores, similar to what we saw during the Jio SIM sale to get the phone.
